Dolmen Structure

Covering Stone

It is a huge stone lifted upon the burial chamber and is also referred to as capstone, Taengseok, and upper stone.

Upright Stone

It is referred to as upright stone or chair stone. It supports the upper capstone and protect the stone chamber as well as enchancing the visiual effect of upper stone looking magnificent.

Grave Facility

It means the stones scattered placed around the burial chamber. It reinforces the resilence of the burial chamber, disperses the weight of covering stone not to overweigh upon the burial chamber. In addition, demarcataion of the grave yard is considered to be another role.


Capstone

It covers the burial chamber, protecting the body laid in and preventing damages to the burial chamber by heavy capstone.

Burial Chamber

It is the lower part of dolmen structure and a chamber to place the deceased. It was built by fixing upright wide stone slabs or stacking stones. They are classified into stone coffin, stone cist and stone encapsulated cist depedning on the construction methods.
